Automotive mechanic apprentice
Under the supervision of a journeyman, requires the ability to perform routine maintenance and repairs. Hold an apprenticeship card issued by the parity committee.
The main duties are listed below, but the incumbent may be assigned to other duties.
- Assist the Journeyman Technician as required.
- Perform safety inspections and perform general maintenance and minor repairs, as directed.
- Perform the work described on the repair order efficiently and accurately, according to dealer and manufacturer's standards.
- Replenish supplies, at the request of technicians or the after-sales service manager.
- Report defects or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Attend department training courses and meetings. Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools and events.
- Use all tools and equipment with caution.
- Contact the parts department to obtain the necessary parts.
- Keep and tag parts if work is under warranty or if requested by customer.
- Examine the designated vehicle to determine if additional maintenance or safety work is required or recommended.
- Contact the service advisor and/or the foreman, as soon as possible, if additional work is required, if the work described is not necessary or if the repairs cannot be made within the time allowed.
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Test drive vehicles.
- Keep up to date with the manufacturer's technical bulletins.
- Report defects or equipment malfunctions to your superior.
- Ensuring the cleanliness of customers' cars. Notify the service advisor and/or the supervisor, as soon as possible, of any incident that could have changed the appearance or condition of a car.
- Ensure order and cleanliness in the workshop.
- Maintain and be responsible for all tools and manuals owned by the dealership; put them back in the right place and in the same condition as when they were received.
- On request, pick up parts from the parts department.
- Be aware of federal, provincial and municipal regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, etc., understand them and comply with them.
- Report any security issues to management as soon as possible.
- Present yourself in a professional manner.
- Perform other duties as required and directed by management.
